Cheers to Healthy Holidays

While we want you to enjoy the special foods that only come around once a year, we are sharing tips to keep you from overdoing it.

We are officially in the holiday season, which for many means larger meals, extra dessert, and more drinks. While we want you to enjoy the special foods that only come around once a year, we are sharing tips to keep you from overdoing it. Enjoy the holiday treats and time with family and friends without feeling uncomfortable, bloated and left with a larger waist come January.

DRINK WATER: Make sure you are well hydrated by drinking water and other no sugar/low caffeine drinks throughout the day. Active adult females should shoot for 80oz minimum while men should be hitting 110oz+. Bored with plain water? Infuse your water with a wedge of citrus or some fresh mint to jazz up the flavor. Enjoy hot or cold tea and sparkling water, too, as part of your daily hydration.

ARE YOU THE HOST? Provide to-go containers for your guests to take leftovers with them. Having fewer leftovers at home may help you get back on track with your normal eating habits quicker and easier.

BE CHOOSY: Before diving in and piling your plate with every dish at the table, pause for a moment to look at all of the choices available. Choose those you enjoy the most, don’t get frequently, and have been looking forward to. Choose less of the items that are easy to come by any time of year.

GET MOVING: Grab your friends and family and sign up for local fun runs to build in some activity. If running/walking isn’t your thing, find other ways to be active. Do an interval style workout at home, play an active game with kiddos, or find a workout video online to follow.
